Showtime Networks Inc. (SNI), a wholly-owned subsidiary of CBS Corporation, owns and operates the premium television networks SHOWTIME®, THE MOVIE CHANNEL™ and FLIX®, and also offers SHOWTIME ON DEMAND®, THE MOVIE CHANNEL™ ON DEMAND and FLIX ON DEMAND®, and the network's authentication service SHOWTIME ANYTIME®. Showtime Digital Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of SNI, operates the stand-alone streaming service SHOWTIME®. SHOWTIME is currently available to subscribers via cable, DBS and telco providers, and as a stand-alone streaming service through Apple®, Roku®, Amazon and Google. Consumers can also subscribe to SHOWTIME via Hulu, Sony PlayStation® Vue and Amazon Prime Video. SNI also manages Smithsonian Networks™, a joint venture between SNI and the Smithsonian Institution, which offers Smithsonian Channel™, and offers Smithsonian Earth™ through SN Digital LLC. SNI markets and distributes sports and entertainment events for exhibition to subscribers on a pay-per-view basis through SHOWTIME PPV®.


Reporting to the EVP, Business Affairs and Production, the VP, Business Affairs will negotiate and draft agreements for Showtime’s original programs as more fully set forth below. This position will have primary responsibility for some development projects and on air original programming under the immediate supervision of the EVP Business Affairs and Production and will also assist existing Business Affairs SVPs on their projects. They will also be responsible for providing legal advice in areas related to their projects such as labor, ancillary rights, clearances, oversight of the administration ancillary to contractual obligations, supervising litigation, etc.

The Vice President will be responsible, but not limited, to the following:

  • Negotiate and draft agreements for the development and production phases of Showtime’s original programming including deals for rights, writers, producers, directors and actors. Must have substantial experience in negotiating and be able to synthesize complex deal points and reduce them to clear, effective contract language.

  • Draft supporting documents ancillary to the production, finance and distribution of programming.

  • Negotiate and draf quitclaim agreements, supervising and communicating regarding litigation claims and working on marketing issues and related matters.

  • Required to supervise all business/legal aspects of current production, including clearance, above-the-line labor issues, actor test options and writing staff deals.An ability to anticipate the practical implication for production and marketing of provisions requested by talent representatives is important, as is the ability to interact seamlessly with and obtain input from executives in the creative, production, business affairs administration and finance departments.

  • Negotiate and draft license agreements and co-production agreements with studio licensors.

  • Responsible for knowing company policy on a significant number of different transactions and determining whether accommodating talent asks would violate policy. They must be able to determine which accommodations require further input from existing Senior VPs or the EVP.

  • Suggest solutions and recommend potential courses of action for senior executives when the issue involved demands attention from them.

  • Have a good judge of the relative urgency of myriad production and clearance issues.


This position demands a high level of professionalism, confidence, and diplomacy. Ability to communicate effectively and succinctly and manage several tasks simultaneously is imperative.

  • A strong background in contract law, intellectual property law, tort law, media law and constitutional first amendment law.

  • Must be familiar with key provisions of the collective bargaining agreements of Screen Actors Guild, Writers Guild, Directors Guild and other entertainment industry unions and guilds.

  • Must be able to interpret and draft complex talent, co-production and licensing agreements.Must be familiar with various compensation structures employed in the entertainment industry, including fixed, deferred and contingent compensation.

  • A good understanding of the television industry, with a focus on premium television. Familiarity with different forms of exhibition and licensing in the digital arena is required.

  • Strong management and communication skills. Ability to interact with senior management.

  • Must be able to utilize knowledge and experience to exercise sound business judgment and make independent decisions.

  • Must have a minimum of eight years experience (and preferably ten or more), with experience in both motion picture/television legal and business affairs. JD is required, preferably from a top-tier law school.
