Line Producer, CBS Morning Show
CBS BUSINESS UNIT: CBS Television Network
JOB TYPE: Full-Time Staff
JOB SCHEDULE: Full-Time
JOB LOCATION: New York, NY
CBS was established in 1928, when founder William Paley purchased 16 independent radio stations and christened them the Columbia Broadcast System. Today, with more than 200 television stations and affiliates reaching virtually every home in the United States, CBS's total network lineup was watched by more than 130 million people a week during the 2012/2013 season. The Network has the #1 drama/scripted program, NCIS; #1 sitcom, THE BIG BANG THEORY; #1 newsmagazine, 60 MINUTES; and #1 daytime drama, THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS. Its programming arms include CBS Entertainment, CBS News and CBS Sports.
The CBS Morning News is in search of a line producer to work as part of a producing team to create a fast-paced, half-hour network news broadcast.
The position calls for a solid background in journalism, television production and its required skills, including news judgment, rundown management, broadcast writing and critical thinking. It also requires a broad, current knowledge of national and world events.
The line producer will work collaboratively with a second line producer and a team of writers to craft a dynamic and forward-looking broadcast. You will work closely with the network's news desks, Newspath (the network's news gathering service for CBS stations), and the senior staff at CBS This Morning to aggressively cover the big stories of the day and breaking news that happens overnight.
We need someone who is adept at building a rundown; someone who can use video, graphics and other elements to enhance coverage of every story; someone who is a strong tease writer; someone who prides themselves on their timing and control room skills; someone who is tapped into social media. The line producer will play a key role in all aspects of the broadcast. You will be charged with ensuring the CBS Morning News is not a recap of the previous day's news, but instead an urgent and fresh broadcast that sets the stage for CBS This Morning.
Candidates must have several years of experience producing network, cable or local television news in a major market. They should be fluent in AP style and have knowledge of ENPS. Familiarity with Avid Assist and NewsCutter is a plus. Candidates should pride themselves on nailing every detail and remaining calm while working fast and efficiently. They should thrive on working in an intense, but exhilarating live television environment.
