CBS Corporation Associate Editor - GameSpot in San Francisco, California
Associate Editor - GameSpot
CBS BUSINESS UNIT: CBS Interactive
JOB TYPE: Full-Time Staff
JOB LOCATION: San Francisco, CA
CBS Interactive is a premier online content network for information and online operations of CBS Corporation as well as some of the top native digital brands in the industry. Our websites dive deep into the things that people care about: business, entertainment, games, news, sports and technology. With more than 290 million unique visitors each month, CBS Interactive is a global top 10 web property and one of the largest premium content networks.
Based in GameSpot's San Francisco office, the Associate Editor will work as part of GameSpot's global editorial team on both written and video content--bringing opinion and personality to help us in our mission of creating the best games coverage online. We need someone capable of producing great content around new and upcoming PC and console games at any point during their life cycle--pre and post release. We're looking for someone who can not only write and present informative and entertaining coverage of games, but who can also find original angles to approach games from pre to post release.
We're looking for a talented writer with a strong work ethic, a team-first mentality, and a desire to share their opinions with the GameSpot audience in an entertaining way. The role will also encompass on-camera work, so a willingness and aptitude to be an on-camera personality is required. A broad knowledge of video games is a must; if you typically devote all of your gaming time to a single series or genre, this might not be the gig for you. You don't need to be knowledgeable about every genre of games, but the successful applicant will have a thorough knowledge of and appreciation for contemporary video games.
The successful applicant will also be expected to be part of our peer-editing process, so an ability to accept and give constructive criticism is expected.
Infrequent national and international travel to cover games events is also an expected part of the job.
Demonstrable experience of video game-related writing and on-camera work.
Good working knowledge of multiple gameplay genres and game series.
2 years + experience in games journalism
High standards of editorial excellence
Strong existing contacts in games industry
Passion for games
Must successfully pass a background check
