The Temporary Director of Digital Content for Smithsonian Networks will lead the development, production and distribution of engaging, compelling content across multiple digital platforms. This person will play a key role in assuring the smooth implementation of the networks content and growth strategy. This position will report to the SVP of Digital Marketing, playing an active role in daily management of the resources, systems and processes we use to produce and manage our digital content assets as we scale to increase traffic and engagement. This will be a 6 month assignment.
In this role, you will:
Lead a creative team while maintaining workflows that deliver weekly video and social content optimized for multiple screens.
Work with project managers and production coordinators to set, track and communicate major milestones to the larger team, planning ahead to create sustainable production schedules.
Collaborate with multiple functional groups including digital marketing, video operations, product and tech, and programming to ensure we are leveraging our content to drive the most impact for the business.
Keep teams informed, on their toes and clear about what is expected from them. Communicate benchmarks to ensure that each project is managed appropriately
Be a nimble thinker and help come up with new ideas in brainstorms that are fresh and within resource limitations and deadlines.
Proactively identify and develop sound point of view for workflow and storytelling improvements and communicate up to SVP to implement positive, meaningful change.
Analyze and actively use data and metrics to inform editorial and strategic decisions and to create accountability for results
Collaborate with department heads to maximize the sharing of information and to leverage innovation and best practices among departments
Support teams in daily management of their projects, providing creative problem solving for complex challenges.
Encourage and nurture creativity and act as a role model and mentor to inspire individuals to deliver excellence, leading by example and drive an entrepreneurial spirit within the team.
8-10 years of content experience, including 4-5 years managing other digital content creators
Management and leadership experience required; successful track record of building and developing high-performing teams
Experience generating brand awareness through existing and emerging social media and online communities and platforms
Ability to spot digital trends and insights to inform agile content development
Experience implementing digital strategies for new website builds and community engagement campaigns
Ability to provide clear creative conceptual direction and to motivate and inspire creative teams
Advanced knowledge through experience using social media to drive brand awareness, engagement, and traffic to a website/social media pages in relation to broader media mix
