CBS Television Stations consists of 29 owned-and-operated stations, including 16 that are part of the CBS Television Network, eight affiliates of The CW Network, three independent stations and two MyNetworkTV affiliates. The Art Director will be responsible for leading a multidisciplinary team in the conceptualizing and production of on-air design for CBS Chicago. This role, in collaboration with the Creative Director, will be responsible for maintaining and creating the look and feel of CBS Chicago. Reporting to the Creative Director, he/she will collaborate with News Directors, Assistant New Director and other members of the team to develop strategic solutions for the on-air look. You are someone who finds inspiration walking down the street, pseudo-stalks design websites and feeds off collaborating with others. You are the co-pilot to the Creative Director, serving as the daily and continuous voice for direction on the design and look of CBS Chicago. Your days will be a mix of high-level design overview and digging into detail, when you need to, and the continuous liaison with News Department and the Creative Director.


Develop and oversee creative concepts for on-air look for CBS Chicago while meeting CBS’ objectives and strategies and adhering to tight deadlines. Direct and collaborate with staff and freelance designers. Work as a hands-on designer when closely guiding conceptual development through every step of production. Direct the work of outside vendors as needed. Help manage and schedule an efficient work- flow among the team. Ability to mentor junior staff, support, motivate and inspire designers with encouragement and constructive feedback. Eager, diligent and possess extreme attention to detail. Expert knowledge of typography and motion design capabilities. Stay up-to-date with current design trends, techniques and processes; seek out and recommend new best practices. Effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously in a high-work volume, quick-turnaround tight deadline environment.




7+ years of industry experience. 3+ years of art direction / project lead/ team management/experience designing and directing production of branded materials and custom pieces. Expert knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator). Working knowledge of 3D platform Cinema 4D. Working knowledge of ViZRT. Strong communication and presentation skills. Undergraduate degree in Graphic Design or related discipline.
