CBS Television Stations consists of 29 owned-and-operated stations, including 16 that are part of the CBS Television Network, eight affiliates of The CW Network, three independent stations and two MyNetworkTV affiliates. Among its stations are WCBS-TV and WLNY-TV (New York), KCBS-TV and KCAL-TV (Los Angeles), WBBM-TV (Chicago), KYW-TV and WPSG-TV (Philadelphia), KTVT-TV and KTXA-TV (Dallas-Ft. DESCRIPTION:

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

To identify, research and investigate stories through data to produce groundbreaking, multi-platform content for CBS 2 and CBSChicago.com. This position will have an emphasis on producing innovative stories and storytelling elements for a digital first environment.

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Propose and research story ideas of an enterprise nature

  • Generate stories through creation of original databases and use of computer-assisted reporting tools

  • Collaborate with producers, reporters, photographers and editors to develop new storytelling formats through data analysis and visualization

  • Help reporters provide additional context and layers for their stories through the analysis and interpretation of public records, as well as credible online sources

  • Contribute to newsroom initiative to establish "real-time" workflows for both the broadcast and digital teams

  • Conduct interviews and surveillance

  • Follow up on viewer tips and story suggestions

  • Contribute to daily news coverage

QUALIFICATIONS:

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • College degree, preferably in journalism or related field

  • Strong database management, data interpretation and presentation skills

  • Experience with at least one programming language preferred

  • Familiarity with Chicago highly desirable
