DESCRIPTION:

Role Details:

The Senior Editor plays a vital role in optimizing CNET content for maximum performance. Top priority is headline writing and rewriting, but there's also proactive work in helping writers take advantage of trending topics, tracking the performance of long tail content, managing timely updates to top priority stories, and coaching writers on the final touches of great stories.

Your Day-to-Day:

  • Write, rewrite and edit great headlines and content descriptions

  • Help writers and editors craft headlines that both perform well in SEO and attract readers

  • Real-time tracking and optimization of the performance of daily top stories

  • Manage dashboards of leading long tail assets to find actionable insights on updates

  • Collaborate with writers, editors and SEO specialists via Slack to keep top-performing content doing well and fix underperforming assets

  • Manage a list of anchor assets in CNET's key categories to regularly check on for long-tail performance

  • Quickly write or update stories in a broad range of topics to fill timely needs or opportunities

Key Projects:

  • Turn good stories into top performing stories.

  • Stay up to date on the latest SEO best practices in the industry and across CBSi brands. Help establish and continually update SEO guidelines and best practices for editorial team to follow.

  • The SEO Editor builds strong, collaborative relationships with CNET editors and writers and across the CBSi SEO, Product and Engineering teams.

QUALIFICATIONS:

What you bring to the team:

You have -

  • 4+ years of digital journalism experience

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or English

  • A track record of results in optimizing content for top performance

  • Deep understanding of SEO techniques and best practices

  • Experience editing technology stories and writing great headlines

  • Experience writing for a general audience of consumers

  • Experience covering technology, startups, innovation or related topics

  • Must be able to work in fast-paced environment and manage daily deadlines

  • Must be adaptable; priorities change rapidly and regularly

  • Must be trustworthy, committed, considerate, and a good listener; high emotional IQ

You might also have -

  • Experience in multi-platform journalism

  • Experience writing and editing stories about consumer technology

  • Social media expertise
