DESCRIPTION:

Role Details:

The Senior Editor leads CNET/Download’s team of writers, directing the day-to-day story selection and assignments to meet the changing needs of the audience and the brand. The Senior Editor also serves as a player-coach, writing high-priority news and features as well.

Your Day-to-Day:

  • Manage a team of writers focused on software and coach them to top performance

  • Scan news releases and social media to find daily stories relevant to apps and software

  • Manage daily assignments for the team of apps writers and quickly edit stories

  • Write and edit great headlines

  • Collect data analytics on the performance of apps content and its writers

  • Develop industry-leading sources with executives and leaders in consumer technology

  • Represent CNET at conferences, product launches, and industry events

  • Appear in CNET videos; make appearances in the media as a subject matter expert

Key Projects:

  • The Senior Editor leads CNET's effort to publish timely and authoritative stories on apps and software to serve the core mission, attract new readers, and drive user engagement.

  • Guide writers in developing feature stories that provide deeper value to readers, demonstrate the brand's authority, drive long tail traffic, and add value to CNET's business model.

  • Serve as a leading CNET writer, doing original reporting, breaking stories, and providing an example of excellence for writers on the apps and software team.

QUALIFICATIONS:

What you bring to the team:

You have -

  • 4+ years of digital journalism experience

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or English

  • Experience managing writers, freelancers, and contractors

  • Experience editing technology stories and writing great headlines

  • Experience writing for an audience of business technology professionals

  • Experience covering technology, startups, innovation, or related topics

  • Must be able to work in fast-paced environment and manage daily deadlines

  • Must be adaptable; since the media and tech industries are two of the fastest changing industries on the planet, priorities change rapidly and regularly

  • Must be trustworthy, committed, considerate, and a good listener; high emotional IQ

You might also have -

  • Deep understanding of multi-platform content techniques

  • Strong reputation and influence on social media

  • Experience as a guest on national media talking about technology
