Smithsonian Channel is a joint venture between Showtime Networks and the Smithsonian Institution. Our awe-inspiring programs, powerful documentaries and entertaining factual stories shine new light on popular genres such as air and space, history, science, nature, travel and pop culture. From legacy series such as Aerial America, Million Dollar American Princesses and Air Disasters to recent hits like America in Color, The Lost Tapes and The Coronation, our award-winning programming is available across multiple platforms in HD and 4K Ultra HD. The Channel is also available internationally in Canada, Singapore and Latin America, with more international launches to come in 2019. We currently have offices in New York City and Washington, DC.
As an intern with our Marketing team, you will develop an understanding of consumer marketing, branding and advertising campaigns for the Channel and programs. This will be gained via supporting our efforts in developing positioning statements, target demographics, and competitive research.
Conduct competitive and industry research on projects ranging from competitive branding analysis to researching programming landscapes around upcoming programs and more.
Assist in creating campaign recaps
Assist in distributing promotional assets (internally and externally)
Learn how to update status charts, take meeting notes, proof tactics, some administrative functions
Current undergraduate student (rising junior or above)
Ability to work at least 20 hours/week
Strong interest in the Cable/Entertainment Industry
2.50 GPA or above
Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Superior communication and interpersonal skills
Exceptional attention to detail
Able to work in a fast-paced environment under deadlines
Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
Ability to work and prioritize work assignments
Able to provide administrative support as needed
Cable television experience, a plus.
Active participation in extracurricular activities; clubs; and/or associations. Leadership positions while maintaining an above average GPA, a plus
Prior internship experience in a related field, a plus
Keynote is a plus
