CBS This Morning is seeking a Managing Editor to oversee day-to-day editorial operations and work closely with the executive producer, senior executives and talent to develop and shape the overall strategic vision of CBS This Morning.
The ideal candidate will have managed a news team, on-air correspondents, have strong editorial/news judgement, and have a demonstrated talent for producing compelling television. The Managing Editor will be responsible for overseeing breaking news, launching stories with senior producers, preparing the show for broadcast, and managing a team of producers. They will bring extensive experience and a fresh perspective to the broadcast with an ability to recognize stories with a high potential of producing compelling television as well as a deep knowledge of politics and current events. Never satisfied with the status quo, the ideal candidate is an enthusiastic strategist with excellent decision-making skills and a healthy competitive spirit.
Candidates must be decisive multi-taskers with outstanding journalistic judgment and remain calm in high-pressure environments. They will be responsible for day-to-day editorial decision-making, helping oversee the staff, coordinating with a team of correspondents and producers in the field, managing big projects and special events, and overseeing editorial content. They should have an excellent command of legal and standards processes, and both field and control room experience. This position requires a keen understanding of the newsgathering and broadcasting processes.
Standard hours are 9-7 Sunday-Thursday, but he or she must be willing to work flexible hours, and be engaged on nights and weekends.
Propose new program concepts across all platforms driving compelling and engaging storytelling which furthers the CBS This Morning brand
Manage production teams, including budgets, and staff development; foster a creative and collaborative environment
Serve as Back-up Executive Producer when necessary
10+ years’ experience as a senior-level producer on a news program at a major broadcast network or cable company, including management experience in a newsroom
Demonstrated ability to make editorial decisions under time pressure and oversee all aspects of production
Field and control room experience required
Must be able to work in a high-pressure environment
Exceptional written, organizational, and verbal communication skills
Exceptional understanding of broadcast and video production
Must be able to work an extended schedule as the news cycle and deadlines require, and to travel when necessary
