CBS This Morning is seeking a News Writer with outstanding writing skills and excellent editorial judgement. This person must be able to adapt to breaking news, and must creatively tell stories that incorporate graphic and video elements. This News writer is responsible for writing for both CBS This Morning, and its sister broadcast CBS Morning News. They must be creative with elements to enhance the show’s pacing, intros, and teases. In the event of breaking news, this person will be expected to produce quality, accurate scripts in a high-pressure environment. This person must also be willing to work off-hours, including nights shifts.
Write VOs, VOSOTs, and anchor copy under high-pressure deadline
Collaborates with Producer for CBS Morning News to produce and write stories for the morning broadcast
Pitch Story ideas, as well as element ideas for both CBS This Morning and CBS Morning News
Work cooperatively with the Head Writer and a team of talented writers on CBS This Morning
Craft creative and concise storybars and tease bars
Candidates must have 5+ years of experience writing for a live news broadcast. Must also be decisive multi-taskers who are recognized for their journalistic judgment and ability to remain calm in high-pressure control room and news room environments. The position requires a broad and current knowledge of national and world events. Must also be fluent in AP writing style, and have an excellent command of legal and standards processes, as well as an eye for detail.
The ideal candidate is curious, optimistic, composed, and must show an understanding of balanced journalism. They have a relentless attention to detail and a simultaneous ability to see the big picture.
Experience with AP ENPS or iNews Rundowns
Experience with Avid Assist or other comparable video screeners
