The Senior Media Software Engineer is responsible for the design, development and implementation of software and scripts related to the orchestration and management of CBS Operations and Engineering's media workloads. This position will help lead the software development efforts for managing video, audio and other related metadata files as these assets move throughout the company's cloud-based content supply chains. Working with various internal and external stakeholders, including senior managers and department expert, working closely with CBS leadership to establish development guidelines, best practices, and software architectural strategies for a newly-launched team.
Serve as department software-development expert, working with leadership to choose appropriate technologies for each project and formalize a long-term tech stack.
Assist in building maintainable development platforms, including configuration of development, QA and production environments related to media processing.
Identify automation opportunities within the media space and develop maintainable software-based solutions to support these opportunities.
Serve as a technical lead for leveraging cloud-based technologies, including integration with services from providers such as AWS, Azure and/or Google Cloud Platform.
Manage projects related to media file and metadata management, including automation and scripting of file-based media orchestration tools.
Formalize software design patterns for integrating/standardizing external teams’ business systems into CBS’s supply chain and maintain future collaboration with these teams.
Manage and coordinate software development projects, delegating responsibilities to other developers as appropriate (including managing of 3rd party relationships when necessary) and maintaining deliverable timelines.
Create documentation for deployment and support, training operational staff on software functional requirements and basic troubleshooting - working with CBS leadership team on developing standards and best practices.
Serve as an escalation point to internal teams to help identify and resolve complex, software-based issues involving multiple systems.
Mentor and enhance the skillset of other team members, and enable team members to contribute to software projects who may only be part-time developers.
The ideal candidate will possess the following knowledge, experience, and skill-sets:
Five plus years of software development and configuration experience with a solid understanding of software architecture.
Expertise in implementing scalable, distributed, and highly available systems on AWS services such as: Compute (EC2, Fargate, Lambda), data storage (S3, RDS PostgreSQL/Aurora, DynamoDB, Elasticsearch), caching (ElastiCache, Redis and Memcached), messaging (SQS and SNS), and monitoring (CloudWatch).
Experience in DevOps and automation using CI/CD tools and processes (such as Jenkins, SaltStack, Ansible, Terraform, GIT/Subversion).
Minimum one to three years of experience working with relational and NoSQL databases.
Proficiency with Docker.
Experience with networking.
Experience working in a full stack is a plus.
Familiarity with Linux and UNIX-based operating systems, with the ability to perform extensive administrative tasks including environment configuration and troubleshooting using key system tools.
Familiarity with enterprise-level media/digital asset management systems a plus.
Familiarity with video containers and codecs used in broadcast and streaming technologies a plus.
Strong desire to master emerging technologies and share experience with other team members.
Excellent communication skills.
Solid foundation in troubleshooting application and data issues.
Ability to understand goals, strategies, and needs of the business to capture into development requirements.
Ability to be a self-starter and to multitask.
Flexibility to assist with after-hours support when needed.
