CBS Corporation IP/Trademarks Legal department is seeking a Paralegal who will work independently to maintain trademarks and assist Attorneys with clearance and enforcement work. The Paralegal will maintain portfolios of marks for certain CBS business divisions and assist in answering clients’ questions about those portfolios. The successful candidate will join an accomplished IP team which plays a critical role in establishing and protecting the intellectual property of CBS’ global organization. This is a full time, temp position.
The Paralegal’s responsibilities cover these important areas:
Trademark Clearance - conduct initial scan, order search report and receive and digest it, draft and finalize advice with attorney, send the report to client and prepare to discuss the results.
Registration, Domestic & Foreign - advise client on goods and services descriptions and options for filing, finalize instructions for filing applications, advise on appropriate legal notices (TM and ®) notations.
Respond to US Office Actions & Issues on Foreign Examinations - prepare responses to office actions that address the form of the application to USPTO and foreign offices and file responses with USPTO, prepare drafts for attorney for substantive office actions.
Trademark & Records Maintenance - renewals, domestic filings of evidence, correspondence with USPTO and foreign agents.
Enforcement - review foreign and domestic watch notices, obtain investigations, draft recommendations to clients for attorney review, opposition and litigation support.
3 - 5 years trademark paralegal experience, domestic & foreign (excludes patent experience)
College degree or equivalent experience
Experience with subscription trademark databases such as Saegis or equivalent
Computer proficiency including trademark databases (WebTMS is a plus)
Experience with Internet searches for history of brand uses and infringer’s activity
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Must be detailed, deadline oriented and organized in a fast paced environment
Interest or work experience in the media/broadcasting industry highly preferred
