DESCRIPTION:

CBS Operations and Engineering is part of CBS Broadcast Inc., a division of CBS Corporation and a premier broadcast network for News, Sports and Entertainment. CBS Operations and Engineering is responsible for the integration and distribution of the Television Network, Video on Demand, Domestic and International Syndication, production of CBS and third party productions, as well as the Engineering design, systems integration, technical maintenance of the New York CBS Broadcast Center.

CBS is seeking a high-impact executive to drive strategic direction and transform CBS’s Operations & Engineering’s (COE) Network Engineering department to a next generation center of excellence.

The Vice President, Engineering is responsible for leading the engineering management team, which requires an experienced Broadcast Engineer with an extensive background in Information Technology, Cloud Architecture, and Broadcast Engineering. The position is responsible for managing and leading development and execution of strategies, implementing technical solutions for CBS Operations, News, Sports and Entertainment. This includes Broadcast Origination facilities, Television Production facilities, Editing, Transmission and all related facilities. The position requires exceptional technical experience, business acumen, and ability to operate in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Position reports to the Sr. Vice President of East Coast Operations.

Role Details:

  • Responsible for managing and executing of department, implementing technical solutions for CBS Operations, News, Sports and Entertainment. Includes oversight of engineering for Broadcast Origination facilities, Television Production facilities, Editing, Transmission and all related facilities.

  • Work closely with News, Sports, Entertainment, Broadcast Distribution, Multi-Platform Distribution to ensure the design, documentation, integration and maintenance of technologies, products and control techniques to meet corporate goals and objectives.

  • Guide CBS leadership and managers on strategy and architecture design, proactively addressing the needs of the internal client community in order to consistently meet or exceed defined requirements.

  • Play an integral role in technology advancement within CBS and the industry. Participation in SMPTE, NCTA, CTA, SCTE, ATSC, NAB, etc.

Day-to-Day:

  • Manage and provide leadership to the Engineering department

  • Execute projects in a timely, open, and service-oriented manner

  • Guide CBS leadership and managers on strategy and architecture design

  • Proactively address the needs of the internal client community and deliver a customer service orientation to all internal clients in order to meet and exceed defined requirements

  • Manage vendor relationships, negotiate contracts

  • Analyze performance and generate reports for the team and executive management and drive future strategies and projections

  • Work closely with Production, News, Sports, Entertainment to ensure the design, documentation, integration and maintenance of appropriate technologies, products and control techniques to meet corporate goals and objectives

  • Manage and report Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Skills:

  • BSEE / BS Computer Science

  • 8+ years of relevant experience required, with proven knowledge of Broadcast, Production, Post Production and Distribution architecture and design

  • Extensive knowledge with Audio and Video technologies and integration into production systems.

  • Experience standing up Cloud environments and infrastructure with broadcast and production related services and systems; both standalone and hybrid with on Premises infrastructure.

  • Deep knowledge of SDI and IP technologies including SMPTE 2110; AWS experienced

  • Proven expertise with evaluating and recommending technology solutions to assist with making strategic decisions to advance CBS’ use of IP and Cloud initiatives

  • Proficient in Video & Audio Compression technology

  • Ability to translate complex IT and Security challenges and issues into business solutions

  • Confident communication skills and ability to provide regular management program/project briefings and presentations

  • Manage working in a matrixed organization and ability to work in a collaborative environment across business and technology teams

  • Proficient in project management disciplines and processes

  • Manage Engineering, Maintenance, Construction and Facilities departments

  • Track record of technology, innovation and implementation success

  • Highly skilled in change management practices and driving constant organizational process improvements

  • Proven ability to work with colleagues in identifying pain points, and business solutions

Preferred Skills:

  • AWS System Administrator, DevOps, Engineer, Security

  • Certified Cisco Network Associate (CCNA)

  • Smart, entrepreneurial profile with strategic vision, strong bias to execute, cost management

  • Demonstrated expertise in consultative, solution selling and business development skills

  • Demonstrated leadership in achieving shared objectives in a matrixed organization, coordinating projects and services across business and organizational boundaries, and building effective cross-functional teams

  • Ability to generate big ideas with strong motivational skills that can apply to all staff levels

  • Proven experience to organizationally transformation operations, workstreams and departments
