CBS Television Stations consists of 29 owned-and-operated stations, including 16 that are part of the CBS Television Network, eight affiliates of The CW Network, three independent stations and two MyNetworkTV affiliates. Among its stations are WCBS-TV and WLNY-TV (New York), KCBS-TV and KCAL-TV (Los Angeles), WBBM-TV (Chicago), KYW-TV and WPSG-TV (Philadelphia), KTVT-TV and KTXA-TV (Dallas-Ft. Worth), KPIX-TV and KBCW-TV (San Francisco), WBZ-TV and WSBK-TV (Boston), WUPA-TV (Atlanta), WWJ-TV and WKBD-TV (Detroit), KSTW-TV (Seattle), WTOG-TV (Tampa-St. Petersburg), WCCO-TV (Minneapolis), KCNC-TV (Denver), WFOR-TV and WBFS-TV (Miami), KOVR-TV and KMAX-TV (Sacramento), KDKA-TV and WPCW-TV (Pittsburgh), WJZ-TV (Baltimore), as well as WCCO-TV’s satellite stations KCCO-TV (Alexandria, Minn.) and KCCW-TV (Walker, Minn.).
Position Purpose: Develop weather forecasts using various weather technologies. Deliver these forecasts, providing consistently accurate information and weather predictions.
Use the station’s weather technologies to develop accurate weather forecasts.
Deliver forecasts live, with energy, accuracy, and with consistently error free performance.
Track and deliver breaking weather information live during times of weather emergency.
Interact on-air with other talent in a manner that builds the talent team and makes viewers feel comfortable with that team.
Work closely and cooperatively with news and promotions producers and managers to promote the daily weather story and the station’s overall weather brand.
Use social media to promote the station’s weather coverage, build its weather brand, and drive traffic to the station’s website weather coverage.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
College degree required; degree in meteorology preferred.
AMS seal required, although we will consider candidates who are working toward their seal.
At least 2 years’ experience as a weather forecaster at a commercial television station.
Team player who can execute news managers’ goals for a particular newscast.
Sound news judgment.
Ability to problem-solve.
Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and act with appropriate urgency during times of breaking weather news.
Demonstrated ability to use data to create a forecast from scratch; we’re not looking for someone who just reads a forecast created by someone else.
Must be available to work all shifts.
