DESCRIPTION:

Role Details:

CBS Interactive is looking for a Senior Privacy Engineer to help make privacy policy become reality in our products and internal services. This role is key to protecting customer and employee data and enhancing capabilities of teams across the company. You will be collaborating with teams to assess privacy risk, manage privacy vulnerabilities, and design services that enable us to better engage our customers about privacy and data protection. As a Privacy Engineer, you will be responsible for partnering with different engineering teams at CBS Interactive that collect, process, and store user data to define what internal use cases exist and how we should securely manage this data. You will build tools that allow engineers, data scientists, and product managers to build awesome new features while still protecting users’ privacy. You’ll also evangelize best practices in data security across the engineering organization. This role reports into the Privacy and Compliance group under CBS Interactive’s Chief Information Security Officer’s group.

Your Day-to-Day:

  • Design and build full web stack (JavaScript/React/Redux, HTML/CSS, Scala backend, MySQL) solutions to ensure our privacy requirements are functioning correctly across all aspects of our services and platforms.

  • Write well-crafted, well-tested, readable, maintainable code

  • Define roadmap and architecture systems for data privacy (data inventory systems, access control, audit trails, etc)

  • Advocate for data privacy throughout the organization, and consult engineering teams throughout the software development life-cycle

  • Work closely with the security team providing privacy controls at scale; and regularly consult with others throughout the organization to minimize risk exposure and improve data safeguards.

  • Understanding of technical privacy issues (cookie management, encryption), and experience with the software development lifecycle

QUALIFICATIONS:

What you bring to the team:

You have -

  • Experience or understanding of software applications design tools and languages

  • Working knowledge of web infrastructure and distributed systems

  • Experience in full-stack engineering. You should be a generalist who's well versed in front-end, as well as backend engineering

  • Have experience in API & service architecture design

  • A solid grasp of the client/server technology stack

  • You have experience with JVM-based languages and frameworks like Angular, Ember, React, etc.

  • Experience working with databases, relational or NoSQL (Cassandra, Redis, etc)

  • Experience with software engineering best practices: unit testing, code reviews, design documentation, excellent debugging, troubleshooting skills

You might also have -

  • BS or MS degree in computer science, computer engineering, information systems, privacy engineering or related field of study

  • Strong software development skills

  • Prior experience in privacy/data protection or a graduate degree or concentration in privacy engineering
