DESCRIPTION:

Description:

Counsel, Participations at CBS Television Studios, with a dual report to the heads of CBS Television Studios Legal Affairs and Participations. The attorney will work with both the production legal group and the in-house litigation group as well as the participations group.

Responsibilities:

Provide legal counsel in connection with all aspects of participation reporting and participation audits, including:

  • Analyze and advise in connection with all aspects of participation audits, including analyzing audit claims, advising regarding the resolution of audit claims, and participating in audit meetings and pre-litigation and settlement negotiations

  • Negotiate and draft audit settlement agreements and other participation-related agreements

  • Represent the company in dispute resolution proceedings such as settlement conferences and mediations

  • Formulate litigation strategy

  • Supervise and partner with outside counsel in participation litigation

  • Analyze participation-related issues involving contracts, accounting, and the issuance of accounting statements

  • Advise studio business executives and other departments in connection with participation-related matters

  • Liaise with auditors, participants, and participants’ representatives

QUALIFICATIONS:

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctorate, admission to state bar, and strong academic credentials required

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience, including substantial experience in profit participation litigation

  • The position requires:

  • Excellent communication (written and verbal), negotiation, interpersonal, and analytical skills

  • Superb legal writing and drafting skills

  • Familiarity with entertainment industry accounting and finance principles

  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with all levels of management

  • Ability to work well under pressure and effectively manage competing priorities in a time-sensitive environment

  • Collegiality and a team-oriented attitude, with the ability to simultaneously work independently and support a team
