Brand Overview:

CNET is the world’s #1 tech news and reviews site, period. We publish the most comprehensive, timely, and engaging technology news, video reviews, and advice on the planet, and we take pride in independent, creative journalism that helps real people really understand -- and enjoy -- tech.

At Roadshow, we strive to bring that same comprehensive focus and scope to the automotive world at large. This includes detailed reviews of the latest cars, live coverage from international auto shows, and plenty of top-shelf video content highlighting all the world’s best cars, bikes, and anything else that moves us. We strive to be tech-savvy with our coverage, but not techy.

Role Details:

You are a writer with your finger on the pulse of the auto industry. You will be responsible for staying abreast of the automotive industry and mobile trends at large, everything from new model announcements to the latest updates from Apple on CarPlay and autonomous-vehicle technology. You will monitor news feeds, determine the worthiness of global happenings, and report on the interesting bits for our readers.

Your Day-to-Day:

You will deliver a series of regular updates, often on tight deadlines. You will work with manufacturers and tech companies to coordinate news ahead of release, and may attend domestic or international car shows and media events when the opportunity allows, helping with on-the-ground reporting as the news is made.

Key Projects:

In addition to hitting regular news and digging for scoops, you’ll help generate regular feature series on the industry, and also help contribute to full reviews and previews of cars.

The ideal candidate is in the Detroit area, but other strategic locations will be considered, including Los Angeles and San Francisco.

What you bring to the team:

You have -

  • 2+ years experience professionally covering the automotive industry and mobility scene

  • Obsessive love for all forms of vehicular transportation with the industry knowledge to match

  • Strong attention to detail and high standards for quality

  • Ability to work under tight deadlines

  • Comfort working as part of an editorial team, as well as independently

  • Familiarity with online publishing

  • Knowledge of basic HTML

  • BA/BS or equivalent experience

  • Willingness to travel to international automotive events

  • U.S. driver's license in good standing

You may also have -

  • Local to Detroit, Los Angeles or San Francisco

  • Solid still photography skills (as for shooting cars at auto shows)

  • Video hosting experience
