Technical Operations Manager, Studio Operations- CBS Evening News
Responsibilities: Manage and supervise technical/staging/support crew. Review and approve crew timesheets and payroll related documents in a timely fashion. Ensure appropriate control room, and studio facilities and personnel are scheduled to produce The CBS Evening News as well as CBS network and/or CBSN broadcasts and Special Reports. Experience working in a unionized environment is preferred and familiarity with the following unions is a plus; IATSE, IBEW and DGA.
Coordinate and check in remotes and live shots. Work with remote crews to troubleshoot and fix problems before remotes are needed for air. Ensure updated remote information is available in control room. Coordinate assignment of facilities for Special Reports to air when there is breaking news.
Contact Maintenance to repair defective equipment and systems, follow-up to ensure that all is in working condition. Notify department members about status of problems affecting the facilities. Work with Engineering to facilitate checkout and completion of projects.
Provide operational and technical expertise to production. Recommend improvements in daily operations, equipment and workflows. Communicate and resolve issues with supervisor and colleagues. Work with producers to fulfill the needs of tapings requested in the Studio Schedules calendar. Fill in for CBS News network broadcasts and special reports as assigned.
Education or relevant Experience: College graduate with a BA or BS degree in Television production or Engineering a plus. At least 5 years of experience in television operations plus an understanding of television technical facilities and post-production are preferred. Live and taped broadcast experience, graphic production and computer networking are a plus. Strong interpersonal skills desired. Ability to effectively juggle multiply priorities at one time while working in a deadline driven environment is critical.
