ZDNet’s edit team is a fully distributed assortment of generalists who work closely together through the wonders of technology to cover breaking tech news as well as deeper, analytical dives into tech trends, products, and industry changes.

Role Details:

You’re looking to become an indispensable utility infielder on a geographically dispersed team of media savvy editors who live and breathe the latest in business tech. We’re looking for a new team player who thrives on deadlines and craves diverse challenges, from producing gallery and video content and editing breaking news, to working with dozens of freelance contributors, serving as a guardian of quality control, attending to site maintenance, and zooming out to manage longer term site projects.

Your Day-to-Day:

  • Video: Promote traffic to our site from Youtube through adding cards, end screens, and other features to ZDNet’s videos on Youtube. Produce Wochit videos and promote video on social and throughout our site’s content.

  • Manage social networks: Write engaging social posts to promote ZDNet and other CBSi content, monitor and tweak our automated content distribution dashboard, keep an eye on reader messages and respond or forward as necessary, monitor/moderate comment sections, and regularly analyze social analytics to help shape our social strategy.

  • Editing: Edit articles and other content for spelling, grammar, consistency, clarity and ZDNet house style, as well as optimize for SEO through engaging headlines and cross-linking ZDNet content and other CBSi brand content. Coordinate with editors to quickly publish and promote breaking news as well as long-form features.

  • Newsletters: Produce weekly newsletters through our CMS for our most popular topics. Analyze newsletter analytics to refine our newsletter strategy.

  • Galleries: Generate ideas for and produce captivating galleries in our CMS both for longtail content and during breaking news events.

  • Maintenance: Document and report site bugs as needed. Assist with production of article pinboxes and other site components.

Key Projects:

  • Increase audience overlap between ZDNet and our sister site TechRepublic.

  • Work with editors and producers to double video streams and increase gallery views

  • Revise our editorial style guide.

  • Work with SEO and editorial teams to maximize SEO impact of content.


What you bring to the team:

  • 2-5 years of professional editing experience

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent), preferably in journalism, English, or a technology field

  • Familiarity with content management systems

  • High standards of quality and journalistic integrity

  • Detail-oriented, self-starting, able to move quickly in response to breaking news

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills*

You might also have:

  • Wochit and other video production experience

  • SEO optimization training
